How to Encourage Young Kids to Learn English

One of the best things you can do for your children is teaching them English from an early age. From social trust to brain development, academic results and employment potential, the benefits are nearly endless. Here's how to teach kids English through games and fun activities.

Why do children need to learn English?

Let's start by discussing why English is important for children in the early years of their education. English is spoken by more than a billion people globally. And, usually, many people speak English as a second language with their native language. In other words, it is an essential life skill for the 21st century. However, that is not the only benefit of learning English for children. Language learning in childhood is also very good for the brain.

Young children have an amazing ability to take in a huge amount of new information in their brains. This means that they can learn languages and skills more easily than adults.

Children learning English also have the opportunity to practice their communication skills. By playing word games, speaking in front of a group, and practising conversation routines, they gain social skills and confidence.

How do I start teaching English at home?

It is never too early to teach children English. The earlier you start the better!

However, it is important to take the right approach. Children at a young age have short attention spans and are not used to rigid class rules. Instead, make English a fun experience for children with short activities and fun songs, stories, and games.

With Kiya Learning you never have to worry about it. They teach your children like we mention above point. In the next section, we shared some tips for teaching English to children at an early age.

Tips for teaching English to young children

•   Treat English as a fun game. Put it in a nutshell: Ideally, your child should think of English as a fun activity to do together, just like going to the park or doing some crafts.

•   Make English a part of your everyday life. It is best to learn little and often with young children. And by integrating English into your everyday life, you create an immersion effect. Students often get better results learning English through immersion, for example by developing the habit of reading books together or discussing their day.

•   Tell stories. Young children love to read, listen, and tell stories. So it's a great way to teach English at home! It is a good idea to read to your child at first, but gradually they should be allowed to read the story. You can do this by taking turns reading different pages in the book.

•   Be careful and don't be too pedantic. Remember, your goal is to make English seem playful and natural to children. Don't worry about correcting your child's tenses or explaining conditions to them! If you correct them too much, you risk stifling their confidence.

•   Use songs and music. Most children love to sing or make music. Singing is also a great way to remember new words or practice correct pronunciation.
